Essential criteria:

  • Experience in using content management systems to create or design webpages, organise information architecture, oversee user permissions to manage volatility and maintain or review the usability and design of digital products.
  • Experience in creating and presenting wireframes and mock-ups for digital products to internal and external stakeholders which meet mandatory whole of government design processes and standards.
  • Experience in applying a diverse range of user research and testing methodologies and elicitation techniques to inform the design of digital products in all stages of the lifecycle.
  • Accessing the feasibility of digital solutions through consultation and negotiation with the development team to strike a balance between user and development needs.
  • Experience working collaboratively in an agile multidisciplinary team in a fast paced environment with multiple competing priorities.

Requirements

Reporting to the Digital Team Assistant Director, user experience designers are responsible for designing and developing user interactions for JSA’s websites and web applications based on the digital service standards.

You will be working in a Drupal CMS/Java script environment with prototyping in Figma to design digital interactions for a range of audience cohorts and across a range of platforms and devices.

Duties and Responsibilities

Senior user experience designer responsibilities include:

  • Designing, implementing and reporting on user experience research.
  • Eliciting requirements and preferences from stakeholders.
  • Designing user interactions and interfaces which meet business and audience needs.
  • Engaging broadly across disciplines to ensure all relevant functional, quality and compliance criteria are captured.

Capabilities

For this role of senior UI designer, you will be required to demonstrate:

  1. Familiarity with UI design techniques and knowledge of basic design principles such as UCD, prototyping and concept-testing.
  2. An understanding of the requirements of a design brief, and is able to follow instructions to accurately implement templates.
  3. Ability to:
    1. take on user feedback to iteratively improve designs.
    2. Show initiative, responsibility and good judgement in delivering the work brief.
    3. Use tools such as Figma and Balsamiq.
  4. Work under the guidance of the Assistant Director and collaborate with team members on a range of projects, such as website redevelopment and data integration, interactive web components and data dashboards.
  5. Understand and implement brand and style guidelines to create consistent interface.
