The Telecommunication and Data Centre Support section within DFAT’s Information Management and Technology Division, has a requirement of for an ICT labour hire resource to fill the role of Telephony and Videoconferencing Engineer. This role is required to support core infrastructure and exists to support, program and install existing and new Telephony and Videoconferencing infrastructure.

Key duties and responsibilities
Job Specific role description:
- Provide subject matter expertise on the Departments technical solutions and serve as a technical contact for the operational management, design uplift, and implementation of Secure Unified Communications (UC) capabilities, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency.
- Maintain expertise in current & emerging collaboration technologies, including implementation and troubleshooting.
- Investigate and resolve complex and recurring issues in coordination with the Network Operations Centre (NOC).
- Develop, maintain, and implement secure collaboration solutions that align with the Departments strategic goals.
- Author, review, maintain and contribute to Solution Designs, Standard Operating Procedures, As-Built-As-Configured and other required documentation artefacts.
- Conduct and support Validation and Verification (V&V) activities with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with vendor/supplier specialists to provide solutions and optimise designs to achieve expected outcomes.
- Ability to rapidly build, automate and deliver proof of concept systems to support analysis, testing, accreditation and development activities.

Technical skills
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer science, Telecommunications or equivalent industry experience.
About the team
This role resides in the DFAT Telecommunications and Data Centre Support Section (TCS). The DFAT TCS section resides within the Information Management and technology Division under the Infrastructure and Operational Support Branch. TCS comprises of a combination of APS and contract technical resources working predominantly in wide area networks, data centres, and Voice and Video technologies. The team supports both projects & operations.
Criteria

Essential criteria
1. Experience in the day-to-day operations of Unified Communications systems and solutions, including the management of voice and data transmissions through the deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimising of the workflow of UC systems (voice, video, and VoIP).
2. A strong understanding of ASD Essential 8 and experience with contributing to security.
3. Ability to work well in a team environment, communicate effectively with technical leads & project management and meet project deadlines.
4. 5+ years’ experience and detailed knowledge in VOIP protocols, codecs, SIP, RPT, SRTP, XMPP, G711, G729, H265/265 and translation, bridging and interoperability between.
5. 5+ years’ experience in designing, implementing, supporting, automating, and orchestrating Unified Communications, Voice and VTC and collaboration solutions.
6. 5+ years’ experience and familiarity with current and emerging networking and collaboration technologies at an engineering design and operational level including: SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) configuration. Unified Communications Manager / Call Manager (CUCM) Cisco Expressway Cisco Meeting Server (CMS) Cisco Meeting Manager (CMM) Telepresence Webex series video endpoints and IP phones Cisco Jabber Webex/Microsoft Teams Cloud Calling/Direct Routing SBC’s (AudioCodes, Ribbon, CUBE)
Desirable criteria
1. Experience working with network Routing and Switching (Juniper), DHCP, DNS, SNMP,TCP/IP, UDP, NTP, VLAN and various network communication protocols.
2. Experience with scripting and automation tools (PowerShell, Python, Bash Ansible etc.)
3. Understanding of Virtualisation and Hyper-Converged Infrastructure, Active Directory and PKI certificate services.
4. Experience in implementing and testing Quality of Service (QoS) DSCP markings of traffic to meet defined standards within secure federated environments.
