The Data and Service Delivery Governance Branch within DFAT’s Information
Management and Technology Division, has a requirement for a labour-hire
resource to fill the role of Solution Architect to contribute to the delivery of various ICT projects ongoing maturity, and support the uplift of the architecture
practice within DFAT.
Deliverables for all projects, irrespective of size and complexity, include the
following:
- Project / Program Plan.
- Business needs / Business Requirements documentation.
- Development and maintenance of RAID logs throughout the life of the project.
- Projects are usually expected to utilise the departments SharePoint; EDRMS;
and DevOps tools for the management of projects and storage of project
artefacts. Transparency is critical and all teams are expected to share their
material unless there is a specific security reason this may not be appropriate. - High Level Solution Designs.
- Detailed / As-built solution documentation.
- Transition into service plans and documentation.
- Monthly status reporting.
- Submission and checking of weekly timesheets.
- Generation and tracking of Change and Release requests through IMD’s
toolset and processes. - Engagement with and compliance to cyber security assurance and
assessment plans and risk reporting. - Management of Asset Under Construction (AUC) balances and prompt
acquittal of such against projects. - Management of project/program milestones and schedules including
dependencies with other projects and areas. - Formal project closure reporting.
Essential criteria
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in solution design/architecture
roles. - Experience in more than one technology architecture domain (i.e. application;
infrastructure; security). - TOGAF certification.
Desirable criteria
- Prior experience working with Commonwealth agencies is highly desirable.
- A sound working knowledge of DTA policies and practices is beneficial.
- Prior experience with cloud, no code/low code platforms, and data and or
integration management would be highly regarded. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills will be highly regarded.

The services are to be performed on-site at DFAT’s office location (51 Allara Street, Canberra). Flexible working arrangements may be considered (i.e. 3 days in office and 2 from home). Remote / Interstate based candidates will not be considered.
