The Information Communication Technology Services Division (ICTSD) is responsible for enabling information and communication technology (ICT) functions and activities in the Department.  The Cloud and Infrastructure Services Branch (CISB) provides key services across a range of areas within the Department.  These include support and management of core IT Systems, change management and IT vendor management.

The Azure Platform Services section in the CISB is seeking a Cloud DevOps Engineer to undertake a range of activities including, but not limited to:

  • L3 administration of Microsoft identity and access management technology such as M365, Entra ID, Conditional Access and Intune.

Build Azure DevOps based pipelines and deploy/configure resources in the Department’s Azure Subscriptions

  • Provide L3 support for business applications infrastructure hosted in AZURE, including server, firewall and web application firewall config and maintain.
  • Contribute to design, development, and implementation of the DAFF Cloud Azure hosting platform.
  • Manage virtual infrastructure and Cloud data factories in the DAFF Azure platform.
  • Develop and maintain Terraform code libraries/modules using Agile processes.

Provide BAU support for Department PKI and Certificates.

Key duties and responsibilities

Manage large-scale Azure deployments, optimizing performance and capacity.

Apply infrastructure changes securely and promptly, following departmental IT change protocols.

Coordinate with business owners on Azure applications and needs.

Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to support products and develop new offerings.

Work with project managers and cyber teams for cost-effective, timely project delivery.

Technical skills

Administration and technical support/implementation of Microsoft M365, Copilot, Azure as well and configuring systems using APO/Bedrock/Terraform

Essential criteria

1.Do you have strong skills in administering Microsoft cloud services such as M365, Azure, and Dynamics 365?

2.Do you have experience working with developers and business owners?

3.Have you worked for the Federal Government with a need to comply with IT security requirements such as the ACSC Essential 8?

4.Do you have experience producing technical documentation for application deployment and infrastructure services?

5.Do you have experience ensuring compliance and governance when managing infrastructure change requests within the Federal Government?

Desirable criteria

1.Experience working with Azure Connect Hub.


This role has a mandatory requirement to attend the office in Canberra (Agriculture House) on a weekly basis, with a strong preference for a minimum of 3 days in the office per week. Flexible work arrangements for remaining days in the week are available.
