The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, seeks Senior Business Analysts to support a range of projects within a broader program of work in the ICT Division. The engagement of these resources is to fill immediate gaps as well as future projects identified in the forward plan of work. The successful candidate will report to the relevant Director and Project Manager and will independently apply business analysis skills to a range of projects. Our new Senior Business Analysts will:

  • Work with stakeholders to identify and analyse the current state and desired future state of business systems and processes.
  • Gather and document requirements using departmental templates
  • Take a user centred design approach to the development of Business Analyst artefacts.

Key duties and responsibilities

The key duties of the role include:

  • Analyse and model business processes and identify opportunities for improvement. Develop comprehensive business process models, roadmaps, and implementation plans, ensuring that proposed improvements are well-understood and communicated with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with data analysts and data scientists to leverage data and analytics for process improvement and informed decision-making.
  • Gather and document requirements: Elicit and record the needs of stakeholders, translating them into clear specifications for development teams.
  • Compile and present data, reports, and recommendations to stakeholders and executives.
  • Create data models, process diagrams, and wireframes to visualize potential solutions, using industry standard techniques.
  • Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts, end users, product owners, change managers, architects, developers, database administrators, testers and trainers to design and deliver solutions.

Successful Business Analysts will be required to hold and maintain a TSPV or TSPA clearance throughout the course of this work. 

About the team

The Information Management and Technology Division (IMD) within DFAT is a client service driven division, dedicated to delivering high quality, fit-for-purpose ICT solutions to DFAT’s global workforce. The division includes six branches: Business Solutions Branch (BSB), Infrastructure & Operational Support Branch (ISB), Cyber Security, Cloud and Networks Branch (CRB), Data and Service Delivery Governance (DAB), Global Modernisation Branch (IGB) and ICT Strategy and Investment Management Branch (IPB). The division delivers complex, high value and high-risk ICT programs and multi-year digital transformation initiatives.

Essential criteria

1.Exceptional ability to confidently elicit and define epics, user stories & acceptance criteria following best practice principles as well as identifying and defining non-functional requirements (NFR).

2.Exceptional communication skills and ability to facilitate interviews, workshops and engage with a wide variety of stakeholders to successfully document business processes and requirements. Apply and monitor appropriate use of modelling and analysis tools, methods and standards.

3.Ability and experience in the application of user centred design principles and tools including personas, service blueprints and journey maps to ensure technology investments meet user requirements and align with business goals and strategic objectives.

4.Experience applying Business Analysis practice to Business Problems supporting solution development in an emerging technology area.

5.Seven+ years experience in a similar role.

1.A demonstrable passion for innovation and a dedication to working collaboratively building strong relationships with stakeholders, taking into account individual views and ideas and tailoring the approach.

2.Strong organisational and time management skills are needed to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

All services must be delivered on-site.
