Selection Criteria:

  • Essential criteria: Experience with Linux systems. Designing, Automating, Integrating with directory services, Securing and Maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux based servers. (Equivalent experience with Ubuntu servers is desirable.
  • Essential criteria: Experience maintaining systems using “Configuration as Code” for; Linux OS SOE and Application deployment, configuration deployment and system administration with git and automation tools, like Ansible, Terraform, Packer or equivalents. Experience working in an environment with a development focused workforce is desirable.
  • Essential criteria: Experience building and administering Linux systems and applications in hybrid or public cloud environments using native tooling, following DevOps practices.
  • Essential criteria: Experience with, Linux container technologies (like Kubernetes), or in maintaining containers with Docker or Podman, or Cloud native technologies.
  • Desirable criteria: Have a Federal Government NV1 clearance
  • Desirable criteria: Have obtained an ASD Occupational Suitability Assessment (0SA) in the recent past


The ACSC requires motivated Linux specialists who are looking to broaden their knowledge with a variety of technologies in an environment where security matters. These unique roles will allow you to work to your strengths while gaining experience in automation, open-source applications, systems and security controls uncommon in most Linux roles. Attractive rates are available based on your skills and experience. You will be responsible for design, development, automation, integration and some maintenance of on premise and hybrid cloud systems and applications in a mission-critical environment. You’ll work in an Agile team with a great group of Linux and Kubernetes specialists. This role is an opportunity to obtain a Federal Government security clearance. This role requires an ability to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 clearance. An ASD Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) is required prior to commencement.

Interstate applicants are encouraged to apply for this role. The Agency will consider and negotiate remote working arrangements on a case by case basis. Applicants should note that there will still be a requirement for regular travel to Canberra for key team, stakeholder and organisational events. Successful candidates will normally work 5 days per week (estimated 40 hour week). Candidates need to be able to obtain a Negative Vetting Security Clearance Level 1 and an ASD Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) before commencing at ASD. OSAs determine suitability to work in a high security environment and are designed to ensure the greatest possible degree of privacy and transparency.
